Registration is NOW OPEN for the AACRL workshop on Administrative Change in Libraries.A copy of the registration form is available at the end of this post.

Sooner or later all libraries have to deal with administrative change.The AACRL [Alabama Association of College and Research Libraries] Programs Committee is pleased to announce a forthcoming workshop on administrative change featuring four Alabama librarians who will share experiences and discuss how librarians can both cope with the difficulties and take advantage of the opportunities presented by administrative change.

Speakers will present a variety of perspectives including those of library administrators and will address such aspects of administrative change as making the most of it, what a new administrator can expect when he or she moves to a new library or is promoted, suggested coping strategies for staff dealing with new administrators who have a radically different agenda or style from their predecessors, and more.

The workshop takes place Wednesday, February 27, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Houston Cole Library at Jacksonville State University Library.

Electronic Resources & Libraries 2008.

The conference will be held March 19-21, 2008 in the Global Learning Center, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA. The keynote speakers for ER&L 2008 are Karen Coyle and Tom Wilson.  The opening keynoter, Karen Coyle, is a librarian and a consultant in the area of digital libraries. Most recently, Karen was part of the Library of Congress Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control. The closing keynoter, Tom Wilson, is Associate Dean for Library Technology at the University of Alabama Libraries, was elected President of LITA in 2003-2004, and has spoken and written on IT and library topics extensively.


The deadline for registration is March 3.  The rates are:

 Student: $135

 Paraprofessional/Support Staff: $195

The Alabama Library Association College, University, and Special Libraries (CUS) Division Programs Committee is pleased to announce a workshop on Embedded Librarians.



The term “embedded librarian” has begun to appear recently in our field. Find out what being an “embedded librarian” means and how you

might be able to employ this concept in your own library.  Four Alabama academic librarians plus a university professor will make

presentations and provide commentary and recommendations.
